About

Purpose

One of our main purposes is to engage students and community members in various hands-on sustainability initiatives and to create excitement over sustainable energy systems. More broadly, our purpose is to educate, enlighten, and inform students and the community about solar and other renewable energy applications, green building, and other aspects of sustainable living.

History

Established in 1995, the Appalachian State University Solar Club is proud to be the university's longest-operating, student-led sustainability organization. In 2003, the Solar Club decided to become a student chapter of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES), which is one of the nation's largest non-profit organizations that helps promote renewable energy technologies through national conferences, magazines, and research. Together, we are able to help spread awareness and excitement for sustainability throughout the High Country and beyond.
